I need help with this old motor. I am not getting any spark on 1-2-3 but a yellow spark on 4. I have moved the green wires (that leads to the coils) and the spark moved that makes me believe the coils are good. I moved the wires from the stator to the switch box (red, red white, blue, and blue white) and the spark moved so I think it’s the stator (please correct me if I’m wrong). I found a guy selling the parts I need and he has the same exact year and classic 50 outboard but his stator only has 2 wires that goes to his switch box and 2 yellow to go to the rectifier. I checked Mercury website and it says thats the kind of stator I need. I’m confused. Is there a difference between a Canada made 50 compared to American made one? That’s the only difference I could think of.

First thing I would do is check your battery.-----Load test your battery.-----Perhaps inspect your starter motor.------No money spent doing these procedures.

could be aftermarket Stator (CDI)

No its the stator kit that uses the adapter..if seller does not have adapter it will not work.

I'm not sure I follow you on the adapter-kit part? (teach me)
I also don't know (yet) if we're talking about the right motor

Maybe the original Stator should be checked first??
Should check the Trigger also

Yeah I’m still waiting for the puller I ordered online. This corona virus crap is delaying everything since it hasn’t left the post office in KY and I ordered it on Monday. On another note, there’s a man I found close to me selling an old 45 hp Merc and from the pic he sent me, everything looks the same as mine including the switchbox part number. His is manual start while mine is electric. I’m gonna do some research while I wait for my puller.

May the force be with you, my serial number is 0A996449 and the parts motor is 6223551. Also, I have tested my stator and blue and blue white read 6300 ohms (5700-8000 range) but the red red white was 138 and its (56-76 range according to CDI) does that mean stator is bad?

If I'm right....

The one with serial#0A996449 is the Classic 50 (in reality a 45HP) 1986
The one with serial#6223551 is a 50 HP from 1982

I don't think they're compatible, here's a link you can compare part-numbers on what engines what components used.

https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/parts-and-accessories/parts-catalog

Search for the particular engines/model# and compare parts for compatibility

if you followed CDI diagnostics and your readings are off, like the parts are defective
