I have twin 4.3's and one fuel tank on the boat. I only had a half tank of gas for the winter storage. The first time out it ran great the second time out the starboard motor got up to speed then started to spudder and loose power. It is my second season of boating so I took it back in to the dock and asked around to which it was recommended I change the points, condensor, rotor, and cap. After that I took it out and it would get to 1800 rpm and start backfiring. The port is still running fine. I then changed the plugs that had a lot of carbon build up and then the port started to loose power and the starboard backfired at 2800 rpm. I changed the fuel filters and water seperators, put in some dry gas, and cleaned the carbs. It has always idled well and done fine at a 1000 rpm in the river. I took it out and started running it I kept at it and eventually the port came around but the starboard is still backfiring at 25-2800 rpms.

It sounds like a simple timing adjustment, or you may have a small amount of junk in the main jet on the starboard carb. Sorry that's the best I can come up with.
