I have a 86 17'sea ray seville bowrider that is in need of some repairs. First, the transom is rotten and needs to be fixed but the transom is not 1 solid piece across the back of the boat. Instead it is made up of 3 sections of wood, 1 for the outdrive and 1 on either side of that to give support for the swim platforms. Should i put it in as 1 piece? The floor also needs repair. I started to pull up the old floor and realized it had been built with no stringers, only floatation foam and a piece of lumber that runs the length of the boat to serve as a nailer for the flooring. The floor is solid from the steering wheel forward but from the wheel back is shot! Should i try to repair just the bad flooring and put it back the way it was from the factory or tear it all out and put stringers in it? I will try to post some pictures to give a better idea of what i am working with. Thanks in advance.

r0at454,

I think you could probably go back with one piece across the transom. It would lend more support across the entire transom. As far as the floor and the stringers, I would glass some stringers in place just for peace of mind. I would replace the entire floor as well. When you think about the amount of work you'll have in it replacing the floor from the wheel back, you might as well do the whole thing. It actually might be easier this way instead of trying to piece the two sections together. Keep us posted with pic's on your progress.

21' Larson Commander

You can go either way with your rebuild. You know for a fact that the boat functions well as it is built. You can rebuild it to stock specks, make sure everything is well sealed, and you will never have to deal with it again.

You just want to bear in mind that if you decide to start adding stringers and all sorts of things, you are also adding weight. Weight equals more fuel consumed. The goal in a rebuild is for it to be safe, and efficient. If it were me, I would rebuild to original spec, just use better techiques and material. Good luck...

Tazmo65:

How are you coming with your floor project?
I have a 1987 Seville with a solid transome but the floor is shot. I probably need to replace it all. The portion around the ski locker is totally rotted away and the floor panel over the gas tank is gone as well. If you have any photos of that part of your boat I'd really like to see them to find out what mine should look like.

Thanks.
Glenn.

Hi Guys,

Im just researching this project, I cant belive I found an exact match! My boat is an '87 Sea Ray Seville bow rider 17 footer with a 4 cylinder Mercrusier. I love the boat but have a rotten deck (Ski locker and over the gas tank). Did you finish your project? Did you end up replacing from the bulkhead back? I would be very appreciative of any details you could share. Im a little nervous of getting into a project that is over my head.

Nothing is over your head; just start search in here, then ask questions.
