Correct, within 2" (as close as I could get) of the outdrive protrusion thru the hull.
bottom, sides, and top.

Sounds to me like, you hit a "Home Run" with the transom!!! Fill the core sample holes with some 3M 5200 or PC-11 epoxy and you're good to go.

well, looks like you're my sylvan repair buddy. I just picked up an '82 22' offshore.
It needs most of the same things yours does, but I've got a 115hp johnson on the rear.

What's your fuel tank configuration look like? I've got a single tank that was all the way aft, but a PO moved it up to where the passenger captain's chair would be.
I'm debating covering it over with w abox and adding a tank like I suspect yours has, or simply putting it back where it came from the factory.

I love my 22ft Sylvan Offshore. I think you guys are going to love yours too!! Mine is 1988 it came with the 140hp IO with the cobra outdrive. The outdrive was junk but the price for the boat was right. I built and installed a bracket on mine and put a 140hp Suzuki outboard on it. That was done in 2011 and it has been the perfect boat ever since for me. I have pulled crab beyond buoy 10 here on the Columbia River with waves landing squarely on top of the bow and the troughs so deep another boater told me he could not even see the top of my radar when I was in the bottom of the trough. My wife was right with me running the boat while I pulled the pots, it was great we have pulled in everything from crappie, perch, bass, blue-gill, Kokanee, kings, silvers, rock bass, ling cod, crab, steamers. what a great economical boat this is. So get after it guys and you won't regret the time and effort they are great boats!!!

I was searching for some rough idea of how it would go with the johnson. Nicely done.
I certainly won't be out in big swells. Nice days on lake erie and just pleasure cruising and camping out at the islands.
this is my first boat and I went all in I suppose.

Correct, Ours came with dual tanks under the captains chairs (boxed).
20 gal tanks.
After gutting the entire interior of the Sylvan, we have decided to move the tanks forward of the bulkhead to allow more standing room for fishing, and to help with planing.
I will be adding pictures as the "resto-mod" moves along.

NSJames, Make sure you check all of your vinyl covered panels for rot.
To quote my father.. "It's like wrapping a wet sponge in saran wrap".
Every panel in ours had some degree of rot.

Now that the floor is stripped, we are removing the remaining carpet backer and glue from everywhere it once was ...
Lots of scraping, followed by fine grade (blue) roloc backed surface conditioning discs, and finishing with 3M green cleaner discs.
This method seems to work the best, and does not create any heat that might distort the aluminum or outside finish.

I could see straight away that all of those pieces were ruined.
The floors seemed solid. I'll know once I get into it I suppose. I don't want to to decking/bulkheads, but I am capable. I'm into it so cheap that I can throw a grand at it and still come out ahead if I sell it.

Depending on what that carpet glue is like an eraser wheel may be quicker and easier.

So after alot of thought, We have decided to go ahead and pull the outdrive and engine to replace the engine mount bushings. And since we're going that far... the transom as well. Better to be sure....And know every inch of the Sylvan has been addressed. I will continue to post pictures of the progress. Quick question... Has anyone ever ordered/used microlam ply for a transom? Thinking of going this route instead of double 3/4" ply method...

I used it 30 years ago when I was in construction but only for beams. It's REAL expensive. Not sure you can get it in the dimensions you need for a transom. Why not just use 3/4" Aruaco Plywood. If you do it right it'll last 50+ years. That should be plenty long!!!

FredericksMW where by the Sacandaga? I lived and graduated from High School in Northville. Great lake to live on and many many memories there. From the fishing to the ice fishing I spend many hours on that lake. I moved to L.I for 20 years then to NC. Always went back to visit as my mom was still there until about 4 years ago.

Sunday sanding has continued.. Removed the rear deck, unhooked all the wiring, Getting ready to pull the outdrive...
Since my last post, My father and I have seemed to step in a Large pile of "poo"
....Free reign at a boat junkyard to take anything we wanted, A Free 76' Evinrude 40hp bigtwin, Free 1961 Crusiers Inc 302, A $50. 1968 StarCraft Sprint V 15' complete with a 45hp Merc and trailer, A $50. 1968 Evinrude Lark 40hp with the Selectric controls...Not to mention a ripping deal on 2 Very nice 47' Martin 60 outboards..
Life has been good..
My Stepson has shown an interest in refitting/restoring the Sprint, So I will be supervising that project..Look for the post!
Now back to the Offshore..................
