I'm new to this forum. I picked up a nice low-hours motor and was wondering if there is a pull cord I can get for it in case of emergencies. I didn't see one on the parts area but I could have overlooked it. Anyone know?
My 1999 C90 has a pull cord for emergencies but I've never had to use it....so far!.....that plastic flywheel cover has to be removed for access. If you don't have a rope I expect any 1/4 inch braided nylon rope with a knot on one end and a handle on the other would work fine....
You might want to find someone that has started a motor that large with a rope or try it yourself before you get to thinking it is a good back up.
might get a membership in one of the boat towing services instead just to have someone to call for help if you need it
Yes, I have the towing service but if I can start it on my own, that could save a lot of time should I ever get in trouble. Can you hand pull start a 90? Is that too big and that is why they don't sell the part?
My C90 is so easy/quick to start when the motor is warm I've always thought it would be easy to pull start warm....but a cold start might be more difficult....You could just run yourself some trials, warm and cold and see how difficult it is.....I generally put my battery on the charger the night before I go out just to be sure....I also keep a set of jumper cables in the boat which have come in handy helping other folks with battery problems down the river.
