1987 115hp power trim issue

Just replaced my lower unit and bled my pt system. The motor sounds ok and operates for the up and down circuit, but won;t actually go up or down. it was working fine aside from a slight creaking sound when the motor would lower down onto the trim cylinders. Now the trim motor just runs but doesnt' raise or lower the unit.
Any ideas?....please

Just went out and tried to trim down the motor and it worked!?!?
I don;t get it...does this happen to anyone where it works intermittently?

may be low on oil.

Chris you might have had an air lock in the cylinder and it bled off by itself.
