Question.... if the powerhead on a E150STLCUR and the powerhead on the 175 are the same block.... what difference makes a 175 a 175? What is the difference? Carbs?

Re: 1987 150 and 175 crossflows question.

This question gets asked alot because most engine manufacturers have two, three and even four engines all with the same displacement yet different horsepower ratings. It is really quite simple. In a four stroke engine it is cam, compression, carburetion and exhaust tuning that makes the difference. In a two stroke it is porting, compression, carburetion, ignition timing and exhaust tuning. All you need to do is go back through decades of Chevrolet 350 engine specs and you will find dozens of horsepower ratings for the good old 350 small block V8.

Re: 1987 150 and 175 crossflows question.

Did a little more research and found my reference that gave two different numbers for the displacements of these motors must be wrong. A search of part numbers shows both the 150 and the 175 use the same pistons and crankshaft. Another of my references shows two different timing settings and the 175 having a W.O.T. 250 rpm higher. Didn't check to see if the heads are different but it wouldn't surprise me if they were. Once again silvertip hit the bullseye in the x ring.
