I am not very knowledgeable about Mercs. But I do know that they are a lot better about being interchangeable than OMC motors. I have a 1987 150 that needs a stator, I also know where a 2000 150 XR6 is with a slung rod. What parts could be interchanged between the 2 motors if any??? I am hoping that the stator can be..or maybe the entire ignition system will fit my 87 block. Before I purchase it I was hoping for some of you merc experts to help me out here. Thanks Sparkie:confused:

The 1987 likely has a 16 amp stator, with a rectifier on the starboard side. The 2000 likely has a wet regulator, single coil 40 amp system. It just wouldn't fit under your cowl, and is pretty much junk anyway.

I put a 40 amp dual regulator system on a 1988 XR4 150. I discarded the advance module (a good idea anyway) and fashioned a plate to mount the regulators on top. I put in the 40 amp stator, with different screws, a 40 amp flywheel, the regulators, and wiring to the batteries. The flywheel cover won't fit under the cowl, but the flywheel does. I just have to put the flywheel cover on it to service the timing.

There is a slight chance the XR6 was changed over to a dual regulator system sometime during it's life.

hope it helps

very helpful, thanks for the advice. I will see if it has dual regulators. I have the clam shell cowl on my 87 if that makes any difference. I would also be willing to put my 87 head onto the 2000 body if it is possible.

The 87 is a 2.4, the XR6 is a 2.5, you can change the LU's, mids, heads, and cowls around almost at will. The bucket cowls get you if you're mixing up EFI and carb'd motor parts. They won't interchange as there's a different offset to them.

The XR6 could also have been changed over to a 16 amp. It was commonly done.

The main thing is the cam shell won't fit over a 40 amp flywheel cover. The flywheel cover really isn't needed except for timing adjustment.

hope it helps

'fraid it won't work. few nuts n bolts will interchange but thats 'bout all. Tha 2000 is a cdm (all electronic) motor. Yours is a switch box, 16 amp motor. Parts are way different (all parts, mechinacal and electric). Unless you know a whole bunch about tha Mercs you don't stand a chance with tryin' to make tha different parts work.................

But if its a straight powerhead for powerhead swap it will work just fine.
