If water is coming out of the pee hole does that mean that the thermastat is working? If not how do you tell? Had it runnig for over an hour today in a barrel and ran fine. Yesterday it killed on me and would not start. Found the rubber on the cam roller that is on the carb was gone. So it does not get hit even when you have the throttle as far as you can in nutruel. Pushed it over with a srewdriver and it started up.

Used it this morning and it ran but I could tell it was getting hot.The pee hole had a constant flow coming from it. Could see steam coming from the hole on the back side. Took the cover off and water hit the engine and it sizzeled, so i know it was very hot. Plus i could tell it was losing power. Not sure what to do next. Was told the pump was only a year old.

Whether the thermostat is open or closed, the water will come out of the peehole. The pischer spritzer is there to show you that the water pump works.

Best way to check the thermostat is to put it in a pot with hot water and see if it opens between 140f and 160f. Use a meat thermometer in the water to see.

If it ran fine in a barrel for an hour chances are it not overheating, it would have locked up long before that. As far as that cam roller just get a new one, dealers sell them for $4 or so.

The pee stream, as said above is only an indicator that your pump is pumping. the water to it doesn't pass through the cooling system and therefore the stat has no effect on the pee stream. If you ran for and hour your stat is working. If not it would overheat in (I'm guessing) 10 minutes or less. If you don't know when the impeller was last changed it should be changed now to avoid costly repair or at the least a breakdown far from the dock. Impellers should be changed about every two years although I usually go three cause I'm cheap and some of my motors get very little use. Best of luck. Rick.
