I decided to take on another project for the winter, it is not my SS, but my best friend from Alberta's. It is a 87 16 SS with a 87 Yamaha 85 hp, that was is need of a considerable amount of TLC, which has turned into a complete rebuild. I am not going to go throught the whole rebuild as there are more than enough of them for reference for everyone. I figuired more of a photo progress thread as we all know how the mob likes them.
Here we go.
The first one was last summer at the lake as she was.

The floor was pretty bad, transom powder in places, and the stringers were completley detached from the ribs. After the gut we wnet to stripping, using Marhyde aircraft stripper, worked awsome.

More photos to come, we ended up replacing all the aluminum on the top side of the gunwalls and front deck, they had way to many holes and dents. The carpet tha was on them hid a lot of years of abuse.

Great work so far. That's an ideal boat/motor combination there.

how fast would she go with the 85hp?

38mph gps

Thanks EZ, yes it is a great combo, we are going to make it a little more fishing friendly and less poofy lol.

Hey Jason, we knew pretty much going into this it was going to be a keel up refit. I did not expect the stringers to be torn loose and the floor to be in such bad shape. Darcy is taking it well, just needs to open his wallet wider. lol
The hanger is working out real well and has not been without a boat it since it was built.

I'm sorry Glen, I just couldn't help it. You set yourself up too well and I was forced to combine your last four posts. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Two Steps forward and one back, you know how it is in the mob GA, lol. It will be a combination, paint and polish.

Thanks Rheagler, a little bit at a time, I'm starting to put in hours like Jason for some reason???

Next I got to work making the dash's and bow deck support a little classy.
Fitting came first
Notice the ugly old bow deck support in the first three pics?

And a couple more.

This one shows the glove box.

Now it all came apart, install the doubles and joiner plywood strips under the deck sections, three coats of spar varnish, and once the paint is done they will be ready to back in.

WOW! I am in awe. Everything is top notch here and I am now ashamed of my 7 pages of mediocrity:). Incredible job so far and can't wait to see it done. Just curious... What do you think you will be totaling cost wise?

You're quickly becoming king of the humble SS!

If you don't mind, could you please shed some detail on the the gunnel replacement? How are you making those smooth cuts? Where did you find the tin?
