Did as Bondo said with hose in the lake water inlet hole and refilled fresh water antifreeze (tank?). The engine started fine and ran. The exhaust bellows in engine compartment is split. Have a feeling Stonyloam is correct on the burnt part as remains were found in the exhaust area just forward of the outdrive some of it wrapped around the shift linkage that the intermediate shift connects to. Anyone know how to get to the exhaust shutter for replacement. Doesn't appear to be water (antifreeze) in the oil. Will check compression and use many of the ideas others have given on this forum. Will take the end caps off the heat exchanger and clean as stonyloam suggested.

You were not watching the temp gauge closely enough ,with that motor you need to keep one eye on the gauge all the time.
Alpha 1 impellers are replaced every 2 years no matter what, period, no discussion ever.
When you split the drive you should see a large SS washer on the splined shaft and a small rubber grommet under it.
Heres the drive https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1TAvwZ3TjhfOVRUNEk0anBUR3lQYTkwcUh5RElUQQ/view
