so you're basically swapping around the alternator with the PS pump so that its like how Mercruiser had it set up...
and then the Edelbrock should fit...

I'm switching to a different set up made by Mercruiser. Mine had the alternator on top this one moves it under the ps pump. so its a merc set up. and then yes we should be able to finish it and install

one more thing I had cross mt mind. I looked and merc did use this engine so the thought crossed my mind how did they put intake on it. it looks like they used a different retainer. The one for cars sticks up its round and the marine application is flat. Wish edelbrock tech would have told me and I wish I had thought about it sooner.

The only thing I can think of is that the engine you have has some kind of aftermarket roller cam set up with a retainer that sticks up so much that only an aftermarket intake will fit. Because the factory roller cam and retainer have more than enough clearance for the standard cast iron intakes with the tin baffle on the underside. And yes those cast intakes were made both ways with a rounded baffle and a flatter one. My ‘88 4.3 came with the roller cam and the intake with the rounded baffle.
