This boat has a right and left mount system however the top of the alignment tool has no marks when put in to check the alignment there is a 1/2 space at the very top of the bar with no markings so i need to drop the back of the engine a bit...Just how would one do that with no for or aft mounts.

Just found two mounts or studs..is it as simple as turning those studs down or must i loosen the entire mounting system

Ayuh,.. Ya lower the front mounts abit,...

They're down-under, along side, midway the block,...
Loosen the lock nut, 'n turn the weighted nut, then relock 'em,..

What drive do you have on that? Some were TRS and some had Alpha's. Sure you have the correct alignment tool?

Ive done this with a volvo every year without fail but i cannot make this damm thing hook up. alignment is even on the bar it will go on but stop 1 inch short and it will not go any futher. I have the the shift in forward gear the lower unit locked in forward rotation i am at a loss....However one thing..the leg is not vetical to the transom its at a angle somewhat like this \ does the leg need to be ] straight to engage.....if so i will have to jackup the entire trailer... and it is a alpha one drive gen one..just dropping a SEI drive in leiu of a merc.

One last thing the witness marks on the alignment tool are uniform however the last 1/2" does take a bit of pop to get it in and its takes a good jerk to pull it out....should it slide in and out with ease?

Ayuh,.... Lower the tongue jack on yer wagon, then lower the drive, atleast near straight,...

The give it a mule kick for that last inch,...

If everything is lined up as you say, I'm guessin' yer hangin' up on the last o-rings goin' into the gimbel bearin' race,...
Grease it, but not slobberin',... load the splines, but wipe the o-rings,...

Yer tool might be hydro-lockin' on the grease,... I've seen it before,...

Well found the problem and may have another. The brass shift shaft in the lower end that's fine but where it engage's the transom assy is the problem... the slot that the shifter slips into is turned almost 30 degree's and when i pull the cable tight so they will line up of course the cable is to long. So do i have a bad cable or is there a adjustment where i can take out a 1/2" of slack. Dont know how the thing got that far out of wack but it did or do i just get a new cable
