The motor is a 1987 50 hp force 2 cylinder, model 507x7b. I have a manual but it does not cover this problem. OK heres the problem: When I turn the key the starter engages the bendix to the flywheel and it will rotate some then stop, rotate some more then stop, so much that the motor wont turn over. I have turned the flywheel by hand and it seems like I can feel when the pistons reach the top and bottom of there cycle. The first battery I used was weak and would not send the bendix to the flywheel. I found that the battery would not hold a charge so I used the battery from my SUV and it still would not turn over. Should I take out the spark plugs and spray some W/D 40 in the spark plug holes? By the way I got this motor about a month ago and this is the first time trying to start it and have never seen it run.

Check and clean the battery cable connections from the battery to the starter solenoid and engine block ground and then from the starter solenoid to starter. If this doesn't correct the problem remove the starter and check and clean the mounting surfaces of the starter and engine block and replace the starter and retighten the bolts. If this doesn't correct the problem the starter probably needs repair or replacing.

Some TC-W3 outboard motor oil squirted in each cylinder before cranking the engine for the first time is a good idea.

The first thing you do is remove the plugs and do a compression test.Post these results.
If it still turns over slow,
then think starter rebuild or repair.Jerry

Is it possiable to get a acurate compression reading when the motor will not make a full revolution?

All connections look good and are tight except the cable ends going to the battery. The metel ends look a little brown in color, I will clean them until they have that silver look to them again. Also I will squirt the TC-W3 in there and see if that helps. Thanks and will post back results.

I cleaned the end of the cables and hooked back up to the SUV battery. Flywheel and egine spune very nice but there was no spark. The rectifier does not look like it's wired correct from looking at the hard to see diagram in the manual buy I will post that problem using a new thread. Thanks for the help it was on point.

Glad you got the motor turning over properly, that's money saved for the little extra's you may want for the boat in the future.
Check all of your ground wires on the engine for the no spark problem, make sure the ground wires are all corrosion free and tight.

I will check to make sure everthing is tight but the rectifier wiring has me concerned and the diagram in the manual is not clear. I hope I can post a pic and get some answers. When I got the engine the 2 coils were cracked so I orderd and replaced with brand new ones. If the rectifier is wired wrong can it damage the brand new expensive coils? maxum247 you have been a big help, thanks. My mouse just went bad on me so gotta use tab button until the stores open.

I don't beleive the coils would be damaged.
