j70elcur rebuilding carb but mine is different than parts look up diagram , I have a orifice at top of carb that's not on diagram , but is on a 1990 j70elesb diagram # 15 part #0335014, same part for engines from 1989 to 1993 , called a slowspeed needle valve , would I be alright to remove and clean , I would count turns out from seated ,also should I remove core plugs and lead shots to clean. carb repair kits for both are same number 396701

On a 1987 carburetor it shows # 15 as an orifice .----That is a calibrated hole and is NOT an adjustable item.----Or perhaps I am not reading post # 1 correctly.----Or perhaps your motor has newer carburetors installed.

yes racerone , I believe the carbs from a 1989 or newer, just want to know is it safe to unscrew and clean, and do I reset at same turns out from seated, or is there a way to adjust

Put up.a pic of your Carb . The adjustable carb does not show up until 92. The 91 earlier carbs have a screw over the orifice. The ones before that have an open orifice with no screw in front of it.

??----The " late production " ---1989 models show an adjustable low speed mixture needle.-----The 1990 70 HP models clearly show an adjustable slow speed mixture needle.

Sorry about that I was looking at the front of the carb. Take it out and count the turns and clean it.

Have to ask.------I often see posts with ----" carburetors have been rebuilt , but motor still runs the same "------My opinion only-----Not much can go wrong with these carburetors.------What is your motor doing / not doing that leads you to carburetor work.----Any other trouble shooting done ?

the boat would not get on plane last year ,started and idled and ran slower speeds good but did not accelerate.i did not use or start the motor the year before. i have owned the motor for ten years and always ran good , new plugs gaped , spark jumps 7/16 , 121 to 123 comp. bulb stays firm , i never cleaned the carbs before so thought i would do that , but they do look really clean after opening them up , i always use sea foam about 1oz per gal.any thoughts ? oh one more thing and this might be important , to shut off the motor i had to push in key to flood it , turning the key off did not work , i bought it this way 10 yrs. ago and never had a problem shutting off or starting
