Ok I checked the timing this afternoon, it was set at 28 degrees I adjusted it to 30 degrees. Didn't seem to change much listening to it on muffs in the yard. I orderd a carb kit and will take them off later this week and give everything a close look and a good cleaning. I should have my tiny tach in this week as well so I can see what kind of rpms I am getting.

While you are waiting, study the carb illustrations. I don't know if your carb has the anti bounce spring on the floats. If so, they are a little tricky to install but, if you follow the illustration, you will have no problem.

Use carb spray and blow out all of the passeges, just watch your eyes while doing so. They are actually very simple carbs so you won't have any problems with them.

Thanks John, I got the carbs off this afternoon and took the bowl off one to check to see if it had the anti bouce spring on the float and it does. I took a close look on how it is on there so I think I should be able to get it back on. I will start the cleaning tommarrow night.

I want to say thanks to John for all the advice. I took the carbs off cleaned them and got them put back on. I also changed the inline fuel filter and screen on the fuel pump. I also decarbed with seafoam. I took the boat to the lake for a test this afternoon. It started and idled great and ran better than ever before the water was pretty rough today but I got about 32mph out of it with me and my dad in the boat with the 13.5/19 pitch prop. The speedo said 26 but my gps said 32. We changed the prop to the 13.5/15 pitch prop and top speed was about 26mph 27-28mph headed across the lake with the wind. The boat had a great hole shot with the 15 pitch prop and since we plan on using it for skiing and wakeboarding I think i will leave it on. I forgot to get it on the scales today but I will next time out, I am interested to know what it weighs. Just thought I would update everyone and hopefully this post will help someone else, I am sure I will be back on soon with more questions. Thanks Again John

Update on weight... Boat and trailer with 1/4 tank of fuel, weighed in at 2420. Seems heavy to me but it ran decent this weekend at the lake.

Is this a 16 or 18 footer? If you take 400 off for the trailer, it still seems about 400 pounds too heavy if it is a 16 footer.

It is a 18 footer. It was weighed on a set of old farm scales so they could be a couple hundred pounds off.

It should be around 1500 to 1650 pounds without fuel and carry on stuff.

Just double checked the hull Id it is a 1989 instead of a 87
No such animal as an '89 1800 Capri. The 1900 came with a Force 125. The 1700 came with a Force 85. The '89 sales brochure lists the dry weight for the 1700 Bowrider as 1475 pounds, which I think includes the trailer. Even if it doesn't include the trailer, your weight is way too high.
