Even a machine shop can not mic a cyd hat has aluminum stuck to the cyd walls. As far as I can tell my bore mic's give the same readings as the machine shops maybe even a little more accurate as I am not looking for cyd work. More often than not cyd's have aluminum build up from heat problems and metal loss from broken rings, loose or missing ring alignment pins, and some from just plain old friction. You may have misunderstood what I meant by "clean it up".

Thanks so much for all the help. We had a 30 year OMC mechanic take a look and he said not worth it. We are parting out the motor if anyone needs anything. I have not removed the impeller yet, but the water diverters were out of place and possibly caused the problem. I cannot comment on the thermostat.
