I put the original carbs on a 1983 johnson that I sold. I have been trying to get this motor running right for a couple of weeks now but still having problems. It has a very fast idle, I have to pull back the timing advance to slow it down. I hope these 87 carbs will work on the 85? I just rebuilt them so that is not the problem. I do have 1983 carbs I could put on there? It also has a real rich smell like it's running too rich. Great spark and compression. Any help would be appreciated.

there was a change around those yrs.a few different carbs .also ,the exhust was re configured.Might have something to do with it.Try the 83's and see if you get a better result. You might also try cross refrencing the carbs on the BRP website..

I guess tomorrow I will try the 1983 carbs. When I put the 1985 carbs on the 1983 it ran great.
