Need to pull the engine on a 3.0L for a water leak (core plug).
I'm an old marine mechanic (Mercruiser Factory Certified) but haven't messed with these Cobras.
Looks to me that the engine can be slid forward off the drive splines without removing the outdrive.
If the drive needs to come off are there any tricks that I need to know?
Please don't post a lot of stuff like I should get a book or take it to a shop, this is a one time deal.

Thanks,
Capt Ron

Re: 1987 Cobra engine pull???

The motor can slide off but its a pain in the a$$ to line it back up since the motor has to be exactly horizontal to the splined shaft.

The Cobra drive is easier than a Merc to get on and off, just pull it off and it doesn't matter what gear its in. You still have to have it off to check the line-up of the motor to the drive. The Merc line-up tool will work OK, but the OMC tool is more accurate.

Thanks Seahorse,

Owner says that he has a book now so all is well. Glad that he is doing the physical work...I'm just keeping him straight.

Haven't been on here in a while...can't beleive that I have such a low member number.

Capt Ron
