I have a 1987 sunbird corsica and I have a gas leak. I found one of the screws in the sender out, so when I had the gas tank full it was simply flowing out of the tank. I fixed that and found gas in several of the adjacent compartments. I used the shop vac to get the gas out, Attaching smaller hoses to the shop vac to get into tight places. I feel the I have gotten most of it out.I am considering a gas tank change as well as my sender still leaks a little when the tank is completely full. Does anyone know who manufactured these tanks for Sunbird and what size my boat uses. I am not really looking forward to the job as I will have to cut the tank out, but I want a proper fuel system with no leaks.

I have no clue who makes them but it shouldn't be a concern. Most any marine shop that does that kind of work can replace it for you. It's just a rectangle box inside the hull.

It's probably best to stick with the same size or close to it since you don't want to go say 20 gallons larger and then have an extra 160lbs in the boat when full. Besides that the boat is made to handle properly with the tank it has, not a bigger one.

It shouldn't be too hard to get someone to do it for you. Just take your credit card with you. :)

You might also want to flush lots of water through it to be sure all the gas is gone. It doesn't take much fumes to starts a fire. If you store your anchor in your bow just put the hose in there and let it run. It'll come out the drain plug.

Good luck.

I just wanted to update. I have fixed the missing screw and flushed the boat out. After a thorough dryout period everything seems to be fine.
