1987 Evinrude 225 cuts out at wide open after about 20 seconds

I have a 21 foot ski centurion barefoot with a 1987 225 Evinrude. I had been fighting ignition issues. 2 trips ago before I made any changes it would run 60 MPH at 5700 RPMs. BUT, just like flipping a light switch it would drop 3 calendars. I'd back off the throttle all 6 would come alive again and back to 60. This happened several times. I searched this forum and discovered the black sticky goo running down on my stator. So, I pulled the flywheel and installed a new CDI Stator. I also noticed loose magnets. One of the magnets was still securely fastened and the others I could pull right off. I set an index mark on the one good magnet then pulled them all, carefully cleaned all the old epoxy from all 6 magnets and flywheel and epoxied them back in using the index marks on the one magnet that had still been secured. BTW, Sharpie markers work great to hold the correct spacing between the magnets. I have a picture if anyone is interested.

Back to the lake, engine seems to run normal however, my max RPM's are about 5400 and top speed is around 56 MPH. Thinking even though I got the magnets where they were supposed to be, the magnets that had slipped a little were creating a different timing position which might have been better? Should I retime the engine now? I'd love to get my 300 RPM's back and 60 MPH, kind of a magic number for me!

Second issue, after about 20 seconds running wide open it would start to cut out, but not like before (with old stator) where it would drop to 3000 RPM's like you flipped a switch, now it just sounded like it was cutting out maybe 1 or 2 cylindars very sporadically and only drop from 5400 to around 5200 RPM's.

Is it possible that this situation existed prior to the stator issue but I never noticed it because it wouldn't run wide open long enough to start cutting out? My gut tells me it sounds like it is starving for fuel.

I have 1 new CDI Power pack I can install not sure what side though. I did replace 1 pack about 5 years ago with a new CDI unit. Should I just go ahead and change the other old pack now?

I also have a new set of plugs, but didn't put them in as I had put a new set in last season and pulled them to see what each cylinder looked like and all 6 looked identical and almost brand new. All plugs very clean.

I have never touched the VRO pump which as I understand it is the fuel and oil pump. Is it possible it is getting old and just can't keep up when I'm pushing it hard?

Funny thing, I don't mind these issues and I'm having a blast working on my motor with the advise from this forum!!!! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to help out!

I ran the boat today and I think it may be a powerpack issue. I displayed the same 3 cylinder cut out after running for a while. It seemed to run fine till I pushed it and then it was either 3 or 6 cylinders. I will try a new CDI power pack that I have and try again. I will also pursue putting in a new VRO pump and fuel lines cause it is time. I replaced the VRO 20 years ago with a 4 wire unit and figure it is probably time to change it again.
