I got an 87 Capri 1700 BR that has been sitting for the past 6 years. Hooked up a battery and water kit and it turned right over to my surprise.
I filled it up with fuel and took it out and ran it for an hour before I was forced to leave because I bent my trolling plate and the trim from it put the boat near verticle. The boat ran fine, but it wouldn't hold an idle in the water. It would idle out of the water with the water kit hooked up, but not in the water.
I put new plugs on it took it out again yesterday and it idled fine. It died once putting it into drive, but the rest of the day was fine and it towed another boat to shore just fine.
However, if the throttle was pushed all the way down, the engine would sputter really bad. The same would happen with sharp turns when the prop was near the surface of the lake.
I bought the Clymer shop manual for this boat/engine and am looking over it, but what would be a list of things I should do before taking the boat out again? The fuel that was left in the tank is so old that it contains no alcohol or methanol so I imagine that's why it's not gummed up to the point that it won't run, but this is my first boat and these are nothing more than educated guesses. I would really appreciate some advice from people with more expertise.
