Sorry gents for all the worth posts, they will stop once my yard boat collection is full =)

This guy emailed me today, saying that he wants to get ride of this boat... my "Wanted open bow boat under 1500" was pretty specific on what i was willing to spend... he send me a collection of shots, and said he wants it gone asap... and he would take 1500 and a 110cc atv (retail 900) or even possibly just 1 larger atv retail around 2500.00. He just got the boat last year, his best friends father past away, who had owned this and another larger boat in Cali, 1 owner, heated garage, taken out maybe 4 times a year at most. His friend needed a pair of truck to get the boats from cali to oregon... so he let him use 1 of his truck, while he drove his own... when they got back, he said he really liked the truck, and he would trade it for the boat (this is when gas was 4.80 a gal, and it was a big block truck) so he traded him...

Current owner has only used it 3 times in last year, boat has been covered and tarped over since hes had it...

Motor was purchased 2 years after boat was purchased, boat had a 120 ish, but wasn't fast enough for his needs, so he had this thing put on, had the transom completely reinforced from people who sold him the yama, just in case...

Anyway, What do you gents think of the package... I'm hoping he calls me tomorrow asking for a retail 2500 atv, cause there is alittle markup on retail atv's for me =)

He has had it for sale for 2 months, he started at 5900, and now is at 2950 firm cash...

Its 19ft, more boat then i need, but it wouldn't cost me more then i wanted to spend !

Only thing he said needs to be addressed, the seats have sun cracks (from being in that cali sun) and aren't cracked yet, but he would guess over a summers use, would be.

Assuming no deck, stringer, or transom rot it seems like a screaming deal to me with that motor.

It does seem to be a good deal if everything is solid.

I would guess that if that 175 isn't over the max allowed it is right at the max allowed for that hull. I don't think I ever seen one of those hulls with more than a 140 on it.

The reinforcing of the transom just in case seems a little strange to me. I think it may be a sign that it is overpowered and they did the reinforcing to ease their minds.

I bet that combo will get at least to the mid 50s speed wise.

Yeah I was also kinda wondering if it was over the max horsepower rating. However that boat does look to be a really nice deep V so maybe it has a higher rating.

YUP, sounds like a good deal to me.

But,,, I/m wondering why there are no pics of the starboard side? Something to hide?

Just got off the phone with him, he had deleted his add, so i flipped out and figured someone got it... Turns out he just took it down to relist it... He said hes giving it some serious thought, and he will let me know tonight what he wants to do, he said the more he thinks about it, the more he wants an ATV =). He is also sending me shots of the other side of the boat, but he said he just didn't even think to take shots of it, "boat looks same on both sides, no damage, cherry as a peach" What ever that means.

What would a motor like that be worth ?

As he recalled from paperwork he has, the motor didn't exceed max hp outboard, but the previous cali owner (rich) decided to have it done just to be safe. Was one of the guys who would drop it off at dealership, and say do what needs to be done when ever it needed service.

I haven't priced too many Yammys but I bet the motor would fetch $2500 or more on its own in the apparant condition that it is in.

Called the guy for the last 3 days, no reply... finally today he picked up... he was out of town on solar repair work... anyway, got me a 1990 f150, so i could buy a larger boat, and go figure, the rear end goes out after owning it for a week !!!

I'll know later this week if i get the chance to pick up this beauty, i love the fact its out board... i just don't like the idea of i/o, just seems like alot more work for a beginner boat... and with this one, all the family and then some can come on the water !!!

I couldn't agree with you more.

Don't feel bad about the truck. I ended up putting a whole new motor in my "just to tow the boat" truck. And it's looking like a tranny's in my future :(

I just bought a 1988 Four Winns Horizon 200, 20'9" with a 350 i/0 for 4000.00. I would say if the floor is solid and everything is good go for it. Check out google four winns for their web site and you can look up specs on past boats. It will tell you what max hp was for specific hull's.

There website only goes back to 1988 LOL No specs that i can find on the 1987 four winns 190.

But i found this on iboats

"1987 Four Winns Boats 190 Horizon
This outboard runabout is 18.67 feet long and weighs 1500 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 91 inches. The max horsepower for this boat on our records is 185 hp"

Re: 1987 Four Winns With 175 Yamaha Worth.

Boat is getting inspected down there, before i drive 4 hrs and find out its got any issues... local place is doing a full check out of hull/transom/motor/floors ect... i'll knoww thurs/fri if its a go, and if so, i'm driving down there in my 1/2 broken f150 to fetch my beauty queen !

Do these larger, oil injected style motors require much more maintenance then smaller motors like the 50hp i have now ?

Good for you. Hope it works out. Nice to see a fellow oregon boater and possible Four Winns owner.

Re: 1987 Four Winns With 175 Yamaha Worth.

The seller told me he would have it dropped off by thurs to get inspected... he didn't, nor did he today... apparently he just had foot surgery, and is on some pills that don't let him drive... so monday he told me his brother is dropping it off... if i don't hear back from him by tues, i'm going to sell this atv i imported just for him, and look for another boat... unless i wanted to pick it up w/out getting it inspected, but not when its 4 hr's drive !
