Whats a good poly resin to compare?
Compare to what?

What state are you in?

It's more likely a supplier you'll need to find closest to you. Even epoxy requires shipping to most of us.......

These guys are in Maryland and have an Excellent line of Polyester products...http://www.fiberglasssite.com/servlet/StoreFront

Evercoat is a good brand as well but that price is NOT a good price and you should be aware that Poly resin DOES have a shelf life as does the MEKP hardener that comes with it. It's best to get your supplies from a reputable dealer that moves a lot of product so you can be assured that the resin you're getting is fresh. Poly resin should run you between $30 and $40 a gallon but...It's classified as Hazardous Material so therefore shipping can be HIGH Dollar!!!!

A good way to estimate the amount of resin is to calculate the WEIGHT of the fiberglass materials. What your looking at weighs 17oz per square yard, so 9 sq feet. Since your going to buy material and have figured out how much, multiply 17oz times how many yards your going to use and divide by 16 to get pounds. You'll need about twice as many pounds of resin as material. Use 9 lbs per gallon for resin and you'll be close enough.

After reading all the comments and seeing your boat, I like the boat and see you are enthusiastic to get'r done. Not using either type resin yet myself, these pro's on here have convinced me to go poly as well.

I'm waiting to finish up the trailer portion of my total and complete boat/motor/trolling motor/trailer rebuild. I finished the motor and trolling motor and nearly finished the trailer as well. So I won't buy any resin and material until I get to that stage myself. I don't need resin sitting there for who knows how long before I'm ready to use it.

You have a nice boat project and I think with following directions from folks on these forums that have done a few themselves will allow you to finish your boat rebuild project and have a better boat then it was originally manufacture... Keep us posted with pictures all along the way. Other following your efforts will learn from them indeed. After all, that IS what these boating forums are trying to do, educate others with quality instructions. So everybody's projects become learning threads for others...
