Star date log 7-19-2011. Going to pick up boat that I purchased for 400.00. Took straight to a boat shop Hot Headz Marine. Got an email w a estimate of 6000.00 or more to get the boat in running order and replace deck and transom, bla bla bla. Well after reading several of these forums and have decided to have that 6000.00 cut in half by doing all the work myself with the help of the fine people like yourselves. Cleaning the garage here in a few to bring her home and prepare to go into unknown and uncharttered territory. Will try to figure out how to load pics tonight so any input you guys might already have for me coming out of the gate? Sure there's plenty. Ha, bring it on. Robert

Got the garage cleaned out and made room for our lil HOBBY project. Went and picked her up from mech/fiberglass shop. Said for the most part if I took the motor out filled it with diesel while doing the hull and transom. Sound bout par for the course? Anybody? Got some pics waiting for g.f. to get home to show me how to load the pics.

So the motor is good? Thats a plus. Pull the motor and put it aside, pour some motor oil into the spark plug holes and it will stay just fine.

Hard to say what else needs dont till we see picts....

Also so you are aware that if you don't post pics it didn't really happen.... for future reference...

I got it, Today it rained so when I picked up the boat I'm now havind to drain all the nasty dirty water. The deck, stringers, transom, and of course all the upholstry. Something I'm wondering about is to remove the cap or no. Fiberglass guy said they try to avoid removing the top at all costs too much work to get it back on. Looked at some of the wk, NOTHING like quality of wk I've seen in this community. If I remove the top I'm worried as everyone else has stated about the hull holding shape. Tomorrow going to Harbor Freight to Pick the supplies ie. grinder or 2? ha suits gloves, repirators and shop vac, and whatever else I can put on the old card.

Removing the top will give you better access to the transom and the stringers as they run under the bow area.

Thnx ezmobee, I want to try and do the work the way oops did his. Gut the whole thing and redo the stringers but when ripping up the deck and other stuff do I need to try and save any of the old stuff to try and make templates later on? Bout to go play demolition man.

Take lots and lots of pictures and measurements using reference points you aren't going to grind off. It's not rocket science - mostly just a bunch of work, some of which is itchy and stinky! Sounds like you've been doing your homework and have a good idea of what lies ahead. Good luck!

Thnx Stratohammer, well today ordered the 2 availiable repair manuals by seloc and clymer? Does anybody know if there's a diagram for these kind of boats maybe from glastron? Just to see what the original boat looked like. G.F. made it home and seems we (or I ) misplaced the camera cable. Hopefully tomorrow we'll find it.

With a tin boat it's possible to use some of the deck pieces and what not for templates, with your glass boat however, it will be near impossible. As mentioned, take lots of pictures :) Diagrams on the boat's construction are not likely to be available. Lets get going on those pics! We're real visual here and threads with pics get WAY more views and posts. Good luck with your project.

alrighty then, went to Lowe's today. Was all excited about getting some new toys, they sure busted my bubble. 224.00 later walked out w 4 1/2" grinder, skill saw, good resperator. Got to reading some of the general how to's and can see the importantance of those small safety tips can sure help out. Should I change those suits every time? They were 11.00 ea.
Got home and was taking a really good long look and decided to go ahead and take the top off, so I took off the rubber started removing screws and figured I better hold up b4 I remove them all. Ripped up most of the carpet (nasty), seats. Started looking at all the cables and how to disconnect them. Found out pretty much everything but when it comes to the steering should I just take off the steering wheel and leave the actual cable? Not sure there? Should I be looking at removing the motor first b4 I Do the top?
Found 3 diff camera cords and none is the one I need. Believe me I want ya'lls help. As soon as I find it I'll load what I've got. Thanx in advance

Trust me on this. You need to take Pics Of anything and Everything you do and remove. You WILL need to refer to them later. DON"T leave out ANYTHING!!!! Even the little things. You won't regret it. The tyvek suits will last as long as you don't rip them. Change your respirator filters about every three days.

I can't stop thinking about this stuff. haha! Ok when I start taking measurements should i make reference points along the top sides of the hull and go across with the a string? Doesn't matter about the seat boxes I should get that done and get to some the rear decking. I can take all this stuff out just worried about getting it all back together haha. I know I won't be laughing it up later.

Well glad today is trash day. Had 5 bags of foam. That was from under the front and back seats. Going slow, but it's going. I couldn't find it but I remeber seeing someone had made a hot gun to reomove or cut that stuff. With all that foam I don't think there's any question about replacing all that foam for the safety. Nowhere near there yet. Also noticed that I don't think I'll be ablr to put in a ski locker or storage cuz the gas tank takes up a lot that room that normaly would use. Hopefully we'll be back at it tonight

Got to thinking about when i get ready to go back w the seats I'm gonna buy a set from iboats but was wondering if it has any foam under the seat or what? Just worried about the over all safety of the boat. Thnx for ur input.

I don't quite understand this one. You mean foam in the seat bases? Typically they do not.
