CL, you might not have to pull the cap,Take a few pics of the inner transom and post them. If you have enough room in their you will not need to pop the top.
The seats should just screw down to the new deck, sealing holes of course.
Have you removed or disasembled any thing yet,Take lots of pics on the wireing and how its put together.
Have you removed the motor?

Well guys thnx in advance for ur help I NEED it! haha

yes that was the seat bases i was talking about. As much as that stuff as there was, I figured it must be a important part of the structure. Safety is the key issue, I'm not young and dumb anymore I got a 4 and a 7 yr old to be concerned about. ok I could still ba the latter. haha When I get to that part I will surely go back w it, Right?

No the motor is not out yet but I would like to try anfd get to it as soon as I get the repair manuals. As i removed the foam from the rear i noticed it was wet and nasty. Looks like the wood doen't go all the way down to the bottom of the transom. One thing I'm not sure of is how all the front (bow?) seats go. Looks like they connected to the windshield base and from there on it all ties in together, I'll take more pics tonight. Just seems like it would be easier and at least I'll know that this boat has been reconstructed from the hull up. Haven't removed any of the controls yet. Not sure if they wk. (probly not) I can't get that lucky. They look fine isthere a way to have them checked out?

Mr. Wood I finally got around to reading your whole thread. U keep refering to yourself as "old". Sir all I can say is I wish I had ur will and determination. That boat is going to be great! Love the style of seats ur doing.
This evening I got to the front (bow?) seat bases or is it whale wall? Any ways I was removing the carpet and found little wholes w light coming threw the bottem of the hull. Sorry for my igornance on the terminology. I will be flipping the hull once I get everything stripped, that"s the plan.
When I get ready to remove the top should I be under neath the gauges removing the wiring one at a time and labeling ea. wire w some tape? Little intimmidated but hey what the heck it wasn't working when I bought it sooooo we'll just going little at time. After diner I'll post some pics

Hey CL,

Check out Harbor Frieght for some of the tools and grinding disc. They have alot of stuff and cheep.
I would label everthing you can and take good pic's of everything. You will be surprised how much you will forget when trying to put things back together.
Good luck with the restore and Welcome to iboats.

Thanx Mr. Produce, lil at a time.
Got home and found that my clymer manual made it in so now on to the removal of the motor. Ordered the (seloc) too but heard it was best used 4 a knee pad haha. I got it too anyway, never enough info.
Mr. Produce I took those pics last night of the transom, best I could do til get motor out. Transom shot? I can't really tell & even if I could probly still wouldn't know. If I don't remove the top then it (hull) should maintain it's shape if I go to removing the stringers?
Well I'm waisting time. Got lots to do and even more to read.

cl,You check the transom by tak ing a 3/8 drill bit and wrap tape around it so you only have an inch of bit at the end of it. Use this as a guide so you don,t drill all the way thru. you'll only drill up to the tape.
Go to the inside transom and start drilling holes around the plug area 2 to 3 on the left of it and the same on the right of it, the lower the holes the better and space them out.
Now check the shaveings, are they dry or wet or did nothing come out.
Wet or nothing is bad and dry is good.
If good, seal all holes with 5200 and let cure.

Ok not much progress tonight. Got the stern dr off & was going to try and remove the transom plate but the motor has to be taken out first according to my manual soooo I made a little cart to set the motor on once I do get it out. JKust slapped some 2x4's together And put some 1.00 roller wheels from walmart on the bottem. At least now I'll be able to roll it around.
I guess this weekend I'm gonna try to put together a make-shift "a frame" outta 2x4's & a2x12 beam to use as a support to hook a come along to. Once I lift iy out I can move the boat and lower her away onto the cart. May have to use a tire not sure. Had to bring it in. The kids we're getting ate up by mesquitos
Back at it again tomorrow!
Oh yeah I have to share this w ya'll. My g.f. has been posting my pics for me right? No big deal right? Weeeeeeelllllllll today when I got home she told me she had posted the pics for me and got to looking around at some of the pics of other peoples projects, ok cool? Next thing u know she started reading these forums and has now started questioning me about this or that. Yeah I want to do a good job but if she keeps reading I might be in for a some real trouble. She'll be having me try to restore the titanic. "but babe the people at Iboats casn help! Haha Guess I should've learned how to post my own pics huh?

Coming along nicely, looks like you are going to try and keep the cap on for now then? I really like the looks of these older Glastrons, but maybe I'm biased. I second the Harbor Freight suggestion, they have serviceable tools at super cheap prices. I wouldn't use them to try and make a living with, but for my needs they have worked fine. Keep us posted!

ETA: If you haven't already looked over in the Mercruiser Info Forum, here is a link to a lot of useful information on your motor and drive, including useful stuff like manuals:

Mr. Produce, you are the man! I just read your whole thread, what an awsome deal! I'm hoping mine will just keep moving along. I don't mind the grinding and glasswork or even the mechs but the motor did not run when I picked it up. The po said he had it running & had 130-135 ibs pressure in each cylinder. about to work on "a" frame" to pull motor. Again great thread very informative esp. w all the pics. Please chime in and give me any input or advice u might havr to offer.

Thanks cl.
Some of the guys on here have called a tow truck to come pull out the motor and sat it on a pallet.
I also think you can rent a cherry picker.

Have you looked at friscoboaters glastron thread? Good stuff in thier bud.

Ok got the motor out and did the 1/4" tape on the drill bit deal and drilled 3 hole about 3" from the drain hole one to the left red and wet wood, one above wet and red, one to the right was dry and looked like wood shavings. :( Owell was already expecting to do it anyways. I guess I need to start removing the old wood, looks like it was made of 2 pieces of plywood, not sure.

sorry to hear the news.
I would get some good measurments on the thickness of your current transom.
Seems like most i/o transoms are 2 pieces of 3/4 ply bonded together.

we need pics cl.

PG is right....take lots of pics and measurements..... Take a piece of cardboard and make a template of your keyhole so you have that for the new transom ;)
