My father-in-law gave me this boat, and I have been spending 1 day a week cleaning it up and general maitenance.

This boat was left out in the weather for 2 winters and the boat was in pretty bad shape. The 2 back-to-back seats have been removed and will be replaced with one back-to-back and one captain seat.

I removed 90% of the teak that was bleached out and used Interlux Teak Restore on all of it and then applied 3 coats of Cetol Natural Teak.

I removed the original carpet from the storage lockers and used Evercoat's Skid No More to coat the lockers to help reduce moisture from building up.

I in in the process of installing a Fusion stereo with remote and (2) 5.25" Boss speakers and (2) 6.5" JBL speakers and an antenna.

Before I re-install the remaining teak I am going to polish and wax the boat using Meguiar's #44 on all surfaces.

All fasteners are being replaced using Stainless steel.

I will also be installing a Power Winch RC30 with a dedicated battery.

Photos will be in following posts.

Very nice mate:)

Those cosmetic changes are given her a new life!

Curious though, after two winters outside, how are the deck and stringers holding up?

Your deck is very spacious.

Keep it up.

Cheers!

The floor and stringers are in suprisingly good shape, not a soft spot that I could find.

I also installed a new Attwood Sahara s500 bilge pump.

Update:

I mounted the remote for the stereo to the right of the steering wheel, I made to speaker enclosures for the front speakers that will be located up under the windshield, the enclosures will also have a LED light to light up the area when the other interior lights come on. I have removed the carpet from the storage lockers and applied the Evercoat Skid No More and then painted the area with grey porch paint.

I also have a transom mount Uniden QT206 depth finder that I will be installing as well.

I have also been collecting toys for the boat as well.
141cm wakeboard, a 2 person tube as well as a Uniden Atlantis 250 VHF marine radio.

Time to put the new LED trailer lights on and put it all back together and enjoy if for the summer.

I left my camera at home, I am working on it at the in-laws house.

I will try to remember to take photos of the speaker enclosures tonight.

The forward one is big enough for a ski locker and the back one will hold the life jackets.

Here are the two front speaker enclosures, they will be oriented so that the square corner is down and attached under the console area on each side.

wa, nice speakers. Do you know if the lockers were original or did your Father-in-law add them? Just curious.

If you are going to post any more pictures of your boat would you please post some of the lockers. I would like to see the inside. I'm redoing my 71 Glastron deck and would like to add some. Thanks.

Re: 1987 Glastron SSV197

I will if I can remember that far.

I will tell you that the front locker is just the entire cavity between the two middle stringers, I could see up to the bow of the boat. I only cleaned up what I could reach.

The Rear locker is about 1/2" shorter then the front so that water can makes its way to the bilge.

The locker cut-outs are about 3 inches narrower then the stringers and the stringers are glassed over. Don't put carpet down there! The carpet I took out was the most soggy, musty smelling carpet I had ever seen.

Again, I will see what I can do about the photos.

Re: 1987 Glastron SSV197

Thanks for the very good explanation, That helps a lot. No carpet for sure. I don't even think I'll put carpet on the deck. I noticed that the drain holes for the bottom of the boat into the bilge are about a inch and a half up from the bottom. So the bottom never really drains all the way. Might be the same on yours. I'm going to lower these holes then seal the wood with resin. Plus vents to get air in there. Don't make a special effort for the pics your explanation was all I needed. Thanks again.
