I have been having this problem for awhile , I get up on plane and I go for about 500 yards and it dies. It was running on my internal tank on my boat, but if I use a small Attwood tank I can keep going till I shut it off at my fishing spot, some how getting to much air in the fuel tank? Or is a hose collapsing ? Or the pick up is not doing its job? Also it is a hard starter, takes about 2 minutes to start it , should I rebuild the carbs? And anything else I should do?

Are you pushing the key in while cranking to start this motor ?--------Do a compression test on it.-------With that much cranking the starter motor may now need to be inspected !!

First things firsDoes the motor start ok on the small tank?If so then you only have one issue and that's the internal tank.FUEL pickup dirty?Anti siphon valve dirty or failing. If you have a filter between the main tank and motor theres another possible culprit.

I push the key in to choke it , it has great compression on all cylinders, also it starts the same way cold with a small tank till you get it going, just replace the fuel filter on the line this year. The sending unit is not 100% sealed and I can here hissing when I pump the bulb , and going to get a new battery for the boat for more cranking amps to crank all 4 cylinders
