I just purchased this 1987 Johnson 200 hp v6 motor and I have a question about disconnecting the vro. The previous owner said that the vro is already disconnected and that he pre-mixes the fuel. I've watched youtube videos on disconnecting the vro, and what I found when I checked my motor wasn't what I expected. I expected to find the plug with black & tan wire set (low oil alarm) unplugged but I don't think this has been done. Also, I was expecting to see the 4-wire half-moon connector disconnected but I didn't see this either. I can see (I think) where the lines to the cylinders are capped off. The tank and alarm wire were still in the boat until I removed them today to make room for a 2nd battery. I'm uploading some pics and would really appreciate remarks from folks who are familiar with this motor and vro disconnect process. Many thanks in advance. vro_pic1.JPG vro_pic2.JPG vro_pic3.JPG vro_pic4.JPG vro_pic5.JPG

You'll need to find wiring diagrams that are at least close to your engine, for starters go to the top of this forum and look at the 'top secret files'. Also, get a factory service manual, look on ebay. Don't waste your time on the generic after-market manuals, get the real thing.

My current engine is a '96 175 so it's a bit different than yours. I previously had a '90 200 which should (if I remember correctly) be real close to yours. My recollection is that all you disconnect is the connector from the oil tank as well as the wires from the fuel / oil pump, and of course disconnect the oil line going into the pump and plug that. That's it.

The connector in your second photo looks like the one for your tilt/trim sender.

You don't want to disconnect the tan and black wires going to your warning buzzer, that would prevent you from getting a high temperature alarm.

You say something about lines to the cylinders being capped off - whatever it is you're seeing has nothing to do with the VRO (which simply mixes the proper amount of oil with gasoline at the fuel pump).

Thanks metric-crescent (cool name), that response does help. I have been looking for a real manual and will look in the files you mentioned. I want to make sure the vro is correctly out of the picture and to also find out what all those external small capped-off lines are (were).
