I'm needing some help on my motor. If someone could post a pic of their terminal block that is wired correctly I would very much appreciate it.

I can't get a pic but I can tell you how it goes
Yellow from rectifier to yellow from the stator
yellow/gray from rectifier to yellow/gray from stator
gray to gray this will be jumpered from one of the yellows goes to the tach.
Red from the rectifier to red from the starter solenoid should be hot all the time.
Purple to purple if you have the updated Vro if no vro don't worry about it.
Now if you have any aftermarket parts in you may not have a yellow/gray don't worry about it just connect it up. But keep the yellows separate you should have 2 on each screw one from the stator and one from the rectifier. don't put all 4 under one screw.

This is how mine is wired right now. I installed a tach and I'm trying to get it to work.

this is a 3rd reiteration of what the fine folks have done. From the yellow/grey from rectifier, on the terminal, the tach is added

It doesn't look like it in the pic. But the very bottom wire is gray, which should be the tach

The very bottom wire would be for the VRO not the tach usually purple . The tach wire is right next to yellow gray wire see the jumper bar 3rd wire from the top. The tach gets a pulse from the stator. I will see if I can get a pic of my bar there should have been a cover over that telling you where everything went.

Yes , but there is nothing hooked to it. If no one else helps you post the model number and I'll pull the manual out tomorrow afternoon.

Seems to be there should be a grey coming form stator to the post. It may be that the yellow grey lead connects to two posts via a little metal strip, and the grey tach lead hooks to the jumped post. I can't remember off hand. 87 is a long time ago.

Do you have the little round rectifier or the rec/reg with the metal cooling fins?

S4010419.JPG That is because his VRO is probably removed or an older 3 wire version which won't use it in which case it doesn't get used.

Here is mine
#1 is yellow to yellow
#2 yellow gray to yellow gray
# 3 is a gray wire to tach notice the jumper bar hard to see on mine because it's painted black
#4 is the red wires
#6 is where the VRO sensor wire goes
Don't need a manual it's not hard everything is color coordinated.
What is your tach set at on the back of it and how are you wiring it did you get the harness to come from the controls. Have no idea how the tach wire can't be seen on your pic plain as day. Now if you don't have the harness which is the way to go much easier plug in and go. Here is how to wire the tach the GRAY wire is the tach signal. You now need the purple wire #6 for power to the tach and a ground. I think your tach needs to be set at 6P

Flyingscott the third wire you are talking about in the photo is a green wire with a white stripe. The purple VRO wire is the fourth one down. The very bottom wire is gray.

My tach is a Faria 7000rpm tach set on 6 and I bought the wiring harness that plugs into the control box

Follow the wires back see if they change colors somebody could have spliced other wires in. Mine is an 1988 model 70 hp with the correct wiring. You cannot put the bottom wire on by the rectifier because it's a hot accessory wire

Here is what you want it plugs right into the controller by the friction lever
