First and foremost remove the battery and have it load tested this will give you a clear idea if the battery is defective (not accepting a charge) which in turn will overheat and destroy the rectifier.
The second possibility can be your stator , look up under the flywheel with a flash light you are looking for any indication of a brownish stuff or melted varnish seeping off the stator ..
