I have an 87 Mariner 75 that the previous owner left sitting for 4 years after winterizing.

First thing: the shroud says it is oil injected, but for the life of me I cannot find an oil tank on it. I mixed up some fresh farm gas (non ethanol) 50:1 and after a bit of cranking with the old plugs in and wires disconnected to get some lube in the cylinders I put some new plugs in (ngk buhw2) and got it to fire up.

It will backfire/sputter through the exhaust every 10 seconds or so, sometimes enough to kill the engine. It will sputter a bit less and stay running at higher rpms, but I still notice it.

Idle mixture screws were set at 1 3/4 out. That seems to be the sweet spot, 1/4 turn in either direction doesn't make much difference. Half turn either direction is worse.

Someone said I might have "lean sneeze" and to run a gallon of 2 stroke with a whole can of seafoam through it and see if the carbs clean up before pulling them and rebuilding.

Afer setting that long pull the carbs and clean.. Oil injection is not on engine but was unit mounted in boat(Autoblend) . If still in boat disconnect and see how far you can toss it.

That's what I suspected with the oil blend. There is no remote unit on the boat (1976 Arrow Glass Cougar).

This is my first boat motor project. Will the 3 carbs need to be synced like motorcycle carbs after coming apart?
