Hello, I have a merc 3.7 165 (470) boat runs pretty good, but lately it seems to be overloading. Last night we went out fishing and were rocking pretty good at an Idle, then motor dies. I tried to restart but nothing, I could smell fuel, like if it was flooded. It took about 10min to get restarted and then was fine. Carb is new, along with almost everything els, minus coil and points. Points were put in a few yrs back, but never ran. Anyone have any Ideas what would cause this to do this?

thanks

Ayuh,... Check the sparkplug color to see if it's runnin' Rich...
If it is, it's a Carb problem...
Could be the float level is off, or the jetting is incorrect...

ty for the reply, was thinking, I just had the carb rebuilt, but I never set the air/fuel mixture screws to the motor. Can that be a prob if the fuel mixture screw is set to rich for idle?

Welcome aboard.
I have the same issue with my 470. I lowered the float level a bit, that seemed to help. Mine doesnt take 10 mins to restart tho.
Try the float and see what happens.

Well I re adjusted the air/fuel mixture screws and that seemed to cure it, they were factory set, and dummy me never set them to the new motor, they were out about 2 turns to much.
