Hi, My name is Russell. I have the service manual and have been going at this for a little while now. My stator and trigger were bad, replaced them. Put new spark plugs. Rebuild the carbs, Rebuilt the fuel pump. Rebuilt the lower unit.
Now this is the current state of my engine. When the engine runs, it wont idle. I have to give it throttle. Most of the time it won't even start. The top cylinder gets no spark. The bottom two cylinders do get spark, occasionally the bottom one wont. Fuel is flowing to the carbs. Compression is good, equal at all cylinders. Plug wires tested ok. I used an inline spark tester, sparks jumps 1/2" easy. I took the ignition coils off and tested for shorts, tested good. I hooked each ignition coil separately to the middle cylinder (I always get spark at this cylinder) and got spark from all coils. I do NOT have a DVA, only a multimeter, so my testing is limited. I also do not have a timing light, to test if the trigger is working correctly. I did test the trigger and stator before install. So, is it safe to assume my switch-box is bad? Any help is much appreciated.
