1987 mercruiser 2.5 no spark issue

Hey everyone, I seem to be having a problem getting spark on my "new to me" boat.

motor is a 1987 mercruiser 2.5. I just replaced the coil and checked all connections and cleaned every one of them, i get power going to the coil, but no spark at the plugs. could it be a problem in the cap? I also tried to see if i get power coming from the plug wire coming off the coil to the distrib. and didnt get anything while motor was cranking.
Any help is appreciated!

Probably just another set of points that is corroded/glazed over. New points and condenser is the cure.

Up in the adults only sticky is info on the points system you should look at.

yup your right, thanks for the reply.. the points were pretty shot from corrosion. when i cleaned them they were about half gone! i looked up some pics of how long they should be.. mine points are nubs! thanks again for the help!

update: replaced the points, cap and rotor and she fired right up! thanks again for the help Don.
