1987 Mercury Classic Fifty 45HP No Crank

Hello, I am restoring a 1987 Bass Tracker TX-17 with a Mercury Classic Fifty 45HP on it. I bought new fuel tanks, new fuel delivery assembly, new spark plugs, and new battery. Also replaced water pump and impeller. When I turn key nothing happens, the flywheel isn't seized and the battery is fully charged. Bad stator or starter maybe? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

i would start off by testing the safety lanyard, then move to the start solenoid then the starter

start with your battery connections and clean every connection all the way to the starter and up to the helm

most likely bad connection.

by clean, I mean clean enough to eat off of them. the metal should be shiney and bright. then you seal it with marine electrical varnish when everything is working great.

Usually the lanyard will keep the motor from firing, but still allow it to crank.

The neutral safety switch in the remote or if the remote isn't in neutral will not allow the starter to crank the motor. Something else to check by connecting a meter to the start connector on the solenoid looking for 12V when the key is turned to start.
