Looks like a fuse holder and wiring for probably a 3AG 20 amp fuse supplying power to your trim relays. It probably connects to one terminal of your starter solenoid.....the terminal that isn't connected to the starter....Merc uses that terminal for a "junction box"....distribution point for 12v.

Thanks for the reply Mark, Are you sure you connect it to the relay?

It's 12v fused power to operate the trim relays and it needs to get 12v from somewhere. The terminal on the starter solenoid is the distribution point for 12v.

In short, yes.

The power to the trim relays are supplied from a NON fused 10 guage wire from the starter solenoid( heavy wire on down solenoid in picture) This fuse holder supplys power from the hot side of solenoids to the cowling trim switch (if installed) and operators handle...

Hello I checked on the motor there is a red wire that goes from the trim relay to the starter solenoid it is not fused. Does this red wire in the picture also go to the same starter solenoid? If so why would they have 2 of them one fused and one not going to the same place?

Can I ask, what is the cowling trim switch? Is this the Trim "Trailer" Switch? If so you just answered my question where the purple wire goes

Re: 1987 Mercury Engine 175hp Wiring question?

The wire I questioned was used for the Tilt, Trim "Trailer" Switch it has a fuse on it. Thanks for the info and all the help. No one was wrong because there is a wire that goes to said place also. This place is great and you all are full of great info. thank all of you for the help. :D
