I have pretty much committed to trading my sled for a 1987 19' Sea Ray Seville BowRider with a 5.7 Mercruiser Alpha One. Anything in particular I need to look out for in this boat/motor/outdrive?
In looking around at the 19' Sear Rays of this vintage I thimk that I have only seen one other with the 5.7. Was this a special order engine package?

Thanks again you guys were great in sterering me away from that '87 MarkTwain with the OMC Cobra

A marine survey should be included,if none is available:
a water test (at least 1/2 hr`s worth)with oil press, water temp (idle/full throttle),volts, rpm`s @ WOT
compression test
transom sounding to determine any rot
floor integrity
fuel tank condition
marine rated components

Thats alot of engine for a 19' bowrider!! What you need to look out for is objects in the distance commin up on you real fast. You are probably close to the max HP for that hull. Enjoy

Ayuh,...................:D

Are you any sort of Mechanic,..??

I'd atleast do a basic Crawl thru, checking all the Fluids, Belts, Hoses, Wiring, Etc.....

A 5.7 of that vintage will be 210-250hp at the prop. It should move along nicely and handle fine.

It should do well with a 350.....
Check all of the above as stated....
Check the rubber u joint bellows for pliability & any sign of cracks, etc....
Also ask for any receipts for any previous maintainence work...:)

It's important to do the checks as mentioned above and it looks well covered. As a point of interest about your drive setup, I had the same engine and drive on an 89 Baja. Used it for 10 years and put over 600 hours on it. Only wear items and general maintenance were required to keep it going. As long as it has been well taken care of it should provide you with some boating pleasure with little to no issues.
