If that's not a bad motor......I don't know what is.

EZ, you did a presidential sound bite. :)

The floors felt OK walking around on them. Without really digging in to it the only rot I found was a bump pad above the door to the cabin. The wood that the upholstry is stapled to was soft. That brown streak on the passenger seat I think was from the cover to the ice box. It was wet but didnt seem rotted. I made an offer of $1200 and I am waiting to hear back. I can see it in the field across the street from my front window. It is snowing and I wish I could drag it over here and put it in my garage instead. Either he's gonna let me have it for that price or its just gonna sit there open to the elements some more and eventually be a real project boat.

That is an Islander model (small cabin) even though the decal says Cheiftan. I think you were smart on your offer after looking at the pics,
while it will be a great project boat, you will have your work cutout for you. Good luck !!

That looks like an awesome "project" boat! But being a project, I kinda think it's priced on the hight side. Though, we have seen some crazy high dollars thrown at old alum boats up in the NE part of the country eh guys.

Um, are we sure that's a 470? Kinda looks like an I6 from where I'm sitting (on my phone). Major difference between those two engines! One is pretty good stuff and the other is a large black anchor.
I just pulled an I6 165 mercruiser from my islander.... my carb is on the other side of the motor than the one in the OP's boat!!!bob

Thanks for the help everyone but this is a no go. The gentleman is stuck on $2800 because of some sentimental value I think. Now I just get to see it rot away across the street. lol.

Tell him nicely your still interested if he decides to look at a lower number. Maybe hint the longer it sits the lower the number, especially if they don't get it covered.

I did tell him my offer stands if he changes his mind. I think the man is elderly and still has hopes of boating again and the son doesnt have time to get the boat in shape himself. Oh well back to craigslist. lol

Tell him you'll fix it up and take him out a couple times. :)

I told him I would take him out after I got it fixed up but it didnt make him want to sell it any quicker. lol. I did end up picking up the Wellcraft and so far it seems like a good boat. Unfortunatley every time I look out front or go anywhere I get to see the Starcraft rotting away in the field.
