I have to get serious and start some repairs on the Islander, I have searched high and low for replacement rubrail insert. e-mailing and calling numerous mfg's, even the co. that makes the rails and inserts for starcraft. unfortunatly the insert is no longer available, It was still listed in a catalog
but as I said NLA. has anyone had any luck with another style insert as a
replacement into the existing extrusion? I really do not want to replace the
complete rail. Any of you Starcraft guys will know the inset I am speaking of
about an inch wide wher it slides into the rail 1 inch wide and around 1/4 in or so thick coming out of the rail, all squared off.
Any help on locating insert appreciated, I began e-mailing salvage places tonight.
thanks steve

Check out greatlakeskipper.com. They are promoting some newly acquired rub rail. Not sure of size.

Steven, I fought the rubrail fight for several months before finding one that would work for my 66. Please post a pic of the side profile so we can help you out.

Sure looks the same as mine. I'll check the depth on the profile on mine.

Okay....... my suggestion. Have a real STRONG HEART when you go shopping for rub rail (even sold here on iboats)...... I think it is actually GOLD for the prices companies want

Is your rub rail really that bad?? Could you lightly sand the nicks and cuts? It is only going to look used again quickly.

Can it be saved? It is really not noticed as much as you think.

The trick is to soften it up to install it. Easier said then done but installation is tough.

I would not worry about it if it was only knicks etc. a few chunks out and even short on both sides, put out some e-mails to boat salvage places, 4 e-mails out, 2 response, one of which is looking possible, but awaiting final answer. If only I had access to an industrial extrusion machine, I'd make a few bucks of the other starcraft guys:)
