I just picked up this boat today. It allegedly spent it's entire life in a boathouse. Which judging by the condition, I tend to believe it. It was sitting on tires since June. All summer. We cleaned it up nicely.

The problem is, it is completely dead. Doesn't even light up. I don't even know where to start. I have only evr owned outboards and know nothing about I/O's.

I'm told that the previous owner had smoke come out of the distibutor and that was it. I'm sure the bellows are shot, among other things. The boat was in too good of shape to pass it up. I only paid $1000 for it.

Someone in this forum must know where to start trouble shooting this. I'd like to do this myself, but I suspect I'll be heading to my freindly neighborhood boat store spending thousands of dollars to fix this thing.

HELP!

Johnny.

Johnny, welcome aboard. We are gonna need some information to help you out. Make, model and serial no. of the I/O would help, no it is needed. Completely dead and doesn't light up doesn't tell us much. What are you trying to say?

Welcome to iboats!

Start at the battery. Is it charged up? Does it hold a charge? How are the connections to the battery cables?
Next, check out the generic wiring diagrams in the stickies at the top of this forum section.

The motor is an OMC 4.3 Litre with a King Cobra 800 series outdrive, at leaset I think it's an 800 series. I Can't even get any power to operate the trim motor. It's stuck in my driveway with motor trimmed down and I can't trailer it to store it until I can winterize it and get the outdrive back up again. Oh Boy!
