1987 Starcraft Islander 221
Hello , new to iboats . Looks like a great spot. I have just bought a 1987 Starcraft Islander with the 3.0 litre engine. Boat hull in good shape with the usual older boat problems , transom is rotten , water soaked foam ,and looks like a few forward rivets must leak as they are coated on the outside. I have experience with doing these repairs as previous boat was a 1969 Holiday that I completely gutted and converted to a centre console. I will post some pics once I figure out how. I see lots of info on transom and floor replacement to this model which is great. My islander has the longer space in front of top windshield compared to later models . Has anyone ever cut in a window hatch here ? Looks like a couple struts in cuddy roof would have to be cut and reinforcement added after hatch put in . Just thinking it would give good ventilation and easier access to front deck as the existing hatch is well forward in the lower part of cuddy. Looks like a 16 -19 inch hatch would fit . Setting this boat up strictly for fishing so cuddy will just be dry storage . All cushions ,curtains etc coming out. Thanks and I look forward to hearing any tips or advice.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your project.
I also have a Islander 221 but I've never though of a second hatch. Could be a stretch to get out of.

one of the joys of an old tin boat is that you can do pretty much whatever you want. if you've already done a Holiner conversion, installing a 2d hatch will be piece of cake for you. but i suspect it would look pretty weird from the outside. what about enlarging the existing hole for a larger hatch, if you can find one big enough?

better post some pix soon....i smell kerosene, which means Jas is preparing some torches.......

welcome to the mob, BTW.
