Hello, I have been browsing for weeks in the forums here. I decided it's time to tell my story, and ask for much needed help.
A great man, and amazing friend recently passed away. His son contacted me asking to help him sell his dad's boat since he has no interest. I offered to bring it back from the dead, and if the motor worked I would I buy it from him. The boat is a 1989 18' renken sea master (center console) with 1987 (ETLH) Yamaha 2 stroke 115hp outboard. I spent hours chiseling ice from inside the bilge and storage this week. Only after draining the water that completely flooded the boat from bilge to 3 in up on deck. After realizing the boat wasn't going to run on faith and hardwork alone. I replaced water separator, plugs, and( stupidly) added 10 gal of good gas 50:1 to tank. i can only get her to run with the motor trim nearly all the way up and she is running rich with high RPM. There was this creamy colored crap in the carbs when I took them off and drained them. . was running at super high RPM also. don't know how much due to broken gauges. I am taking the gas out tomorrow completely and tossing in some 93 shell v power with star tron and yahamalube lube at 50:1. I have an issue I found with what I have been calling "#3 carb" (bottom right) air mixture screw. It seems to either be cross threaded, or it's seized. Either way, I can't turn it in, and it won't come out more then one rotation. I am hoping that the high RPM is due to the screws being 4 turns out. I was hoping for some info to get me past this engine crap. Any recommendations as to what I can do/check other then what I've stated. The boat has many hours of repairs/updates which are extensive. I need to get the engine done so I can know that at the end of the road. All this won't be in vein. This old boat has so many memories. Its named "piece of ship" for a reason.
List of things I'll be doing for engine which I haven't yet.
New gas lines, new fuel pump, siphon ball and lines,timing/retard.
