Well I posted about this motor before and got all the answers I needed. I just want to see if anyone has some input as to what may be causeing this.
a quick rundow, I purchased this motor a couple of weeks ago, it was sitting on the side of the persons house for over a year uncovered. I cheked the compression and it shows an even 95 PSI on all 6 cylinders. After connecting it to the boat I pulled the lower unit and changed the water pump as well as the fluid. I pulled all 3 carbs off and cleaned them including the jets very well. I would eat out of them. Put in 6 new plugs, (these plugs were a little weird as they were smooth, the electrode was not there and there was nothing to gap). I also replaced all the wires as well. I disconnected the VRO and running premix instead. I fired it up for the and she idels a little rough and it coughs and pops every few seconds, now I am only running the motor at Idle in a trashcan full of water. I noticed the batterys weren charging so I looked in the manual and did all the tests, turns out the regulator/rectifer was no good, so needless to say 200.00 later I got my new one and replaced it. I had to pull the flywheel to do so and everthing underneath looked like new, the stator was in great shape along with the timer base. After taking the measurements the power paks are testing good as well. Put everthing back together and fired it up, now the batteries are charging nicely and the tach is running smooth. The one thing I did notice is that when the engine is running and does the quick misfire, the RPMS on the tach drop a ~200.
I am not really sure what else it can be, I decarbed the engine yesterday (wow that was alot of smoke) and it still seems to be doing it. When I check the spark on all of the plugs it is a little tough with the way these plugs are but they are all sparking.
Does anyone know what can this skip/pop/misfire be? Or should I just run it in the water and see how it goes?
thank you for any help
