I just bought a used 1988 evinrude 15 hp outboard engine and it is in "like new" condition8). It starts at the 2nd or 3rd pull and runs great. After about 5-10 minutes at high speeds it starts to loose power suddenly and dies.I have replaced the fuel tank with a plastic one because I thought the metal one that came with it had rust or was causing my problem. It helped it run longer but it still dies after 10 -15 minutes. The model # is E15RCCS.Can someone please help me.thank you

Replace the ignition coil which may be part of a power pack. Easy to find as the output of it connects to the top of the spark plugs.

If you have a separate trigger circuit, go to Radio Shack and get some white thermal compound (grease). Lift the solid state trigger ckt and anything else that is in an epoxy filled case and screwed onto a sheet metal bracket or engine block and smear some grease between the component and the chassis. Remount.

Problem is heat related and both will/can do this to you . Question is, which is it?

Thanks for the reply Mark, But Im sure that the problem is not from heat because after it dies it is not too hot.

Doesn't have to be too hot. The heat is inside the component and you may be able to detect it by touching it CAREFULLY.

I know you vented your new fuel tank. d:)

Yep, I'm going with a powerpack/coil too. Heat that you can't feel will torch it. Best to run it and feel the cylinders when it starts to die out. One colder than the other, a bad coil. Both same, buy a new powerpack....looking at about $125+.

If you have cracked epoxy or any plastic epoxy filled case components that are cracked you have your problem. The cracking comes from failure and the resultant heat escaping.
