what would be the symptoms of a bad timer base, when i first crank my motor it runs fine has plenty of power and acceleration. i can take off and go about a half mile wide open, and all of a sudden it deccelerates and runs about half the rpms, but it doesnt miss, runs smoothe, then it will accelerate the deccelerate. back and forth for a while then it will kick in and have full power. acts like the timing is advanced and working right when it runs right, but acts like the timing is retarded when it runs bad. any suggestions. thanks

You need to determine if you are loosing spark to one or more cylinders when it happens. Other than that it could be a carburation problem. Just guessing until you do a little more diagnosing.
