Ok guys I need some help. I have a 1988 200hp evinrude vro. My boat wont idle very well and will not go when you give it throttle. If you push it to wide open five or six time it will finally take off. I checked the spark today and found that the #5 cylinder has no spark. I switched the coil pack and still no fire but the pack fired on the other cylinder so its not that. anyone have any ideas?

Fouled carburetors and/or sticking timer base (bogging out when throttle is applied).

Not sure what you mean by " switched the coil pack and still no fire but the pack fired on the other cylinder".

i took the coil pack off the #5 and put it on # 3 and it worked on # 3 but not on #5 so I figured its not that. Will the carbs cause it not to get spark to the plug?

Carbs have nothing to do with the spark. Check the connector plugs (pins/sockets) between the powerpack and the coils and also between the powerpack and the timer base.

Pins/sockets do get pushed back at times, also the wires at time break off from the pins/sockets BUT stay in the rubber connector, giving the impression that they are still connected properly.
