Hey folks,
I just put a rebuilt carb on my 3L OMC Cobra and when I hit the throttle to accelerate it bogs way down, sometimes stalls. If I push throttle forward more gradually it accelerates normally. I have just tuned her up and everything else is right on, I rechecked timing and gap/dwell etc.

Is it possible its a fuel mix adjustment? Is there an acceleration pump in the carb (I know some old car engines had such things).

Yes Pat there is an accelerator pump and your symptoms sound exactly like it's not working.

Is it likely to be an accelerator pump on a newly rebuilt carb? I just want to be certain I've eliminated other possible cause before removing it,,,again...

thanks

S$#T happens all the time, I would disconnect the throttle cable at the carb end so you can move the throttle asm on the carb easily and watch the linkage that goes to the acc pump and see if it actually moves and activates the pump, you should also see a stream of gas going down the carb from the pump.
