1988 4.3liter omc , stalling problems?

I recently rebuilt my 4.3 liter omc,(GM)I hooked muffs up to it and ran it at my house and it seems to run great. I put it in the water and it runs good for a couple minutes then stalls.The engine will sit for maybe 5 or 10 minutes then starts right back up. Water seperator has been replaced along with carb cleaned. The boat sat for 2 years prior the engine rebuild. Also the boat will not idle below 1500 rpms after it warms up on the water. If I run the boat on the water between 2500 and 3000 rpms not in gear it runs great but as soon as it is put into gear and drive a couple hundred feet it stalls.

Don,<br /> I checked the fuel lines and they are all clean and clear. The one thing Im seeing is that after it is run at lets say higher RPM's 2000-3500 and then you go back to idle it will die out ,or lets say it has a hard time running from 1400 rpm and below. it seems like it runs very different in the water than it does with the muffs
