I have the engine out on a stand with a slight lean to the front, very slight(front lower). I checked the oil level before pumping oil and and showed ~.75 quarts over full. Oil line was to the first "L" in full on the dipstick (dipstick p/n 14607).

I then pumped out the oil.

I then pulled the drain plug to see how much was left after pumping. No oil drained from the plug. Seems pumping oil out is equal or better than draining, assuming engine level is not effecting it.

I only got 4.5 quarts out of the engine, this includes the oil filter. Is this correct? I was showing over, and the last person to change the oil overfilled and told me so.

I expected to drain 5+ quarts.

Engine: 454 7.4L Mag with alpha one gen one drive.

The service manual shows 7 quarts with filter. The little cap on the dipstick didn't come loose did it? That would allow you to push the dipstick too far down into the tube.

The cap is secure.
